For over twenty years, Newtown Center Pediatrics has been caring for the children of Fairfield County and surrounding areas.
We are conveniently located at 10 Queen Street in the center of Newtown, at the entrance to Big Y, next to My Place.
Our office is generally open from 9-4:30 Monday through Friday. We are closed from 12-1:30 for lunch.
We have separate sick and well reception areas, waiting rooms, exam rooms, and ADA wheelchair accessible restrooms, as well as a wheel chair accessible ramp entrance.
All patient exam rooms are wiped down fully on all possible public surfaces including door handles between each patient visit with medical grade disinfecting wipes or bleach.
All visits are by appointment only. We encourage you to make appointments for check-ups well in advance. For sick visits, we will guarantee a same-day appointment for all patients that call in the morning.
We ask you to be on time for your scheduled appointments and to please call us at least 24 hours before if you need to cancel your appointment, so patients needing appointments can be called.
Choosing a pediatrician for your child is an important decision. It is crucial that our philosophy on health and wellness aligns closely with that of your family. Disease prevention is extremely important to us, and immunizations are among the most effective tools to help us achieve this. We follow the science-based immunization schedule from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). We do not accept patients who choose to vaccinate on an alternative schedule.
Disruptive and disrespectful behaviors are unacceptable at Newtown Center Pediatrics. We are committed to having a professional, courteous, respectful, caring relationship with all of our patients and families. Any behavior or conduct that deviates from this standard has the potential to interfere and undermine the collaborative relationship that is essential for safe and effective patient care, which can result in dismissal from the practice.
Reading regularly with young children stimulates optimal patterns of brain development that last a lifetime. We are always looking for new and gently used books to add to our waiting room collections. Thank you Girl Scouts Daisy Troop 50628 from Head O' Meadow School!
Our office is our second home and our staff is our extended family.
We believe respect and close personal relationships with our families and
our community make us
better healthcare partners.
Dr. Laura Nowacki is a Sandy Hook mother of four amazing adult children. Dr. Nowacki's talented husband, David, is a dentist, artist, and builder, with his own dental practice adjacent to Newtown Center Pediatrics.
Dr. Nowacki graduated with honors from Duke University in 1987 where she was co-captain of the swim team and rowed club crew. She worked as a pediatric physician assistant at Norwalk and Danbury Hospitals while attending medical school at University of Connecticut where she graduated in 1995. Dr. Nowacki went to Connecticut Children's Medical Center for pediatric and chief residency before coming back to Newtown in 1999 to begin private practice pediatrics.
Current and previous professional affiliations include the CT chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Newtown Recovery and Resiliency Team, Sandy Hook School Foundation, and the United Physicians of Newtown. Professional interests include preventative pediatrics, breastfeeding medicine, and care of children with special healthcare needs. Dr. Nowacki is also an assistant Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at Quinnipiac University, the University of CT and at the University of Vermont teaching medical, physician assistant, and nurse practitioner students.
Dr. Nowacki's personal interests include being home with her family, rowing and sculling with her NHRC teammates, running long distances outdoors, swimming, weeding the vegetable and berry gardens, and going to Block Island to hike, paddleboard, kayak, swim and play with her family.
In 2013 we were pleased to announce the ongoing expansion of the practice included the addition of Newtown's very own Jennifer Burns, Pediatric APRN.
Jennifer is a loving mother of 3 wonderful children, and is actively involved in her childrens' schools, sports, church, and community activities. Her extensive pediatric experience includes caring for sick and well children in an outpatient pediatric office, serving as visiting nurse for newborns, and working with special needs children in pediatric neurology at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital and NYU in NYC.
In 2016, we also welcomed Emilie Koepke Gibbs, PA-C to our team.
Emilie has been a Pediatric Physician Assistant for over 15 years, working along side her parents in their Danbury practice until they retired and now continuing to care for many of their patients who followed her here to NCP. Emilie blends her private practice experience with her academic connections gained from also running the Henry Abbott school based health center. Emilie expertly balances her time between pediatric and adolescent medicine, all while raising two beautiful daughters now in elementary school.
With Emilie's hiring, we look forward to creating an even stronger healthcare team between our schools and the community we serve.
We are equally grateful for the dedication of our nurse manager extraordinaire, Elizabeth Bonis of Kent, who has been with Newtown Center Pediatrics for over 20 years.
Elizabeth maintains our vaccine program, trains new staff, and provides calm and caring advice to all of our patients.

In 2016, we won the lottery with the addition of our newest nurse, Alyssa Ciraolo of New Milford.
Alyssa has quickly become one of the family with her positive attitude and love of children and challenges. Her playful rapport with the kids reminds us why we love our profession and why we are so lucky to have patients who are fun to care for in sickness and in health.
