We follow the American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines and vaccinate to protect our own children and to protect others in our community.
A 2024 study from the CDC found vaccines prevented 508 million lifetime illnesses, 32 million hospitalizations and 1.1 million deaths among children born from 1994-2023.
The American Academy of Pediatrics has a long history of providing evidence-based guidance on vaccines and has worked with the CDC in recent decades on recommendations when possible. The vaccine schedules are monitored closely for safety and are based on a rigorous scientific process of review and are in the best interest of health of infants, children and adolescents.
Newtown Center Pediatrics is an office that follows the AAP guidelines. We do not split-up vaccines or delay them in anyway. Download the AAP vaccine schedule here
Based on availability, we are able to offer the RSV shot, Beyfortus, to our newborns under age 9 months starting in October. If a pregnant mother receives the RSV vaccine at least 2 weeks before delivery, then the infant does not need the RSV shot.
At the moment, we do not have any COVID-19 vaccine in stock. The CDC no longer recommends routine vaccination for healthy children, although children can get vaccinated after a conversation with their doctor. The AAP recommends all young children 6-23 months as well as children ages 2-18 years in certain risk groups receive the COVID vaccine as well as any parent who desires protection from COVID 19 to have access to the vaccine. To find out if your child qualifies as high risk and to find COVID-19 vaccine locations near you, search vaccines.gov.
Vaccines protect your child before they are exposed to an infection. That’s why we give HPV vaccination earlier rather than later, to protect them long before they are ever exposed. As of July 1, 2024, the HPV vaccine is available for all children 9 and 10 years of age. Please keep in mind that children who initiate the HPV series at age 9 through 14 years only need 2 doses of vaccine, with a 6-month minimum interval separating doses. Children who initiate the HPV series at 15 years of age or older need 3 doses of vaccine.

The CT WiZ Public Portal allows individuals who were vaccinated in Connecticut to access their own immunization records, while parents and guardians can also access their minor child’s records.
